Goodbye Thabo and Other Stories
Straddling Zimbabwe and South Africa, Goodbye Thabo and Other Stories is a collection of eleven short stories focusing on the lives of ordinary people as they search for love and happiness amid socio-political chaos. In the title story, a young political activist is murdered in what is staged as a prison suicide, leaving behind his wife and two children. There is hope in some stories, but in others, it’s only darkness. Tailed is set in a grim dystopian South Africa where sexual intercourse leaves a woman with a demeaning tail that grows proportional to the number of sexual encounters the woman has. When her attempts to get married and rid herself of the tail backfires, Nomusa has to return to her village in Kwazulu Natal and marry an old polygamist she doesn’t love only so that she can rid herself of the tail and the shame associated with it.
